East Jakarta LH Checks Eco-friendly Bags Usage in Markets

Tens East Jakarta Environment (LH) Sub-agency personnel monitored the use of eco-friendly shopping bags (KBRL) in several traditional and modern markets on Wednesday (7/1).

East Jakarta LH Sub-agency Head, Herwansyah mentioned, Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) No. 142/2019 concerning the Obligation to Use Eco-friendly Shopping Bags has been implemented from early July.

From his monitoring, most business places have provided KBRL for their customers. But some of them still use disposable plastic bags.

Related to this issue, his side will monitor and socialize merchants about this policy for a month. After that, his side will impose sanctions on the violators that vary between administrative fines, business operation suspension, and business permit revocation.

Suminto (38), fruit seller at Kramat Jati Central Market is agreed with KBRL implementation because it gives good impact for the environment.

"For the time being, we still give eco-friendly bags for free, but in the future buyers must pay for eco-friendly bags or bring their own bags from home," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, one of market customers, Sawiyah (60) conveyed, she has been using KBRL for a long time because of its durability and it can be used many times. She admitted to buy eco-friendly bags with price Rp 1,500 for small size and Rp 2,500 for large size.

"I have accustomed to use eco-friendly bags because it is stronger and can be used many times," she said.
